Collection group
Documents
Written museum items are by right the largest group: they number up to 110,000 units.
About the group
The group includes purely documentary materials of a personal and administrative nature, as well as collections of books and brochures, albums, newspapers, magazines and postcards, and cartographic materials.
Written monuments, to which we count documents, are traditionally one of the largest and most important groups in the collection of any historical museum.
Documents form the basis of every serious historical study, because, as nothing else does, they reflect every aspect of human life, and because information is fixed and passed on in words, they allow a researcher to draw facts from their content. All this contributes to the fullest and most many-sided reflection of reality.
The museum keeps a considerable number of charters, diplomas and certificates, among them the earliest document: a charter granted to Yakiv Vysheslavtsev for service and valour in the war with Poland (1666).
The archives of the outstanding educator Khrystyna Alchevska and the revolutionary Borys Zhadanovskyi are very rich in content.
