Research

The museum’s research work: publications by its staff and the annual conference “Sumtsov Readings”. The texts are in Ukrainian (a few papers are in Russian) and are not translated.

What you will find

Sumtsov Readings

An annual conference held since 18 April 1995 in honour of Mykola Sumtsov, the founder and first director of the Museum of Sloboda Ukraine. Programmes and papers are listed by year.

Conference materials (in Ukrainian)

Research library

About 20,000 books and periodicals on history, archaeology, ethnography and museum studies, and 15 specialist journals and newspapers. Among the rarest are early works on the history of Sloboda Ukraine and Kharkiv.

About the library (in Ukrainian)

The research pages are in Ukrainian only. A browser’s page translation gives a good first idea of a text; for a citation or a PDF, write to us.

Working with the collection

Access to the holdings

The library and the holdings serve museum staff first. Researchers can work with them on a written request, or a letter from their institution addressed to the director, listing the materials and the purpose of the work.

How to send a request

The catalogue as open data

The collection catalogue as files: a table of objects (CSV, JSON Lines) and LIDO records, for research, catalogues and aggregators.
