Description

The book was printed in 1857 at the printing house of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra.

Printed in a single color. The text is set within a double ornamental frame of small geometric and floral motifs. It has running heads and catchwords. Letter foliation appears in the upper right corner of the frame. The book's decoration is complemented by headpieces, tailpieces, in-text engravings, and cast ornaments.

At the end of the book is the table of contents. The cover is lost.

In the margins, on various pages, are ownership notes in the form of texts (in Russian): concerning the veneration of holy relics by the servant of God, titular councillor Ivan Ignatyevich Pashchenkov, together with his family; a dedication from the merchant Maksym Bulavnenkov [sic] through the efforts of Aleksandr Abramov; a note that the book was purchased on August 1, 1857, by the titular councillor's wife Anna Pashchenkova, in everlasting memory of the Kharkiv townsman Maksym, son of Miroshko [Bukretmanov], and his family; and a gift inscription from Aleksandr Abramovich Simkov, 1893.

The edition contains various tales of the wondrous deeds and Lives of the venerable fathers of the Kyiv Caves.

The book was donated to the museum by Oleksii Ivanovych Shyshkin of Kharkiv in 1984.
