A square cover. The front is of red velvet, lavishly decorated with a floral and geometric ornament (embroidered in twisted silver metal thread and corded thread, with the addition of silver sequin embroidery).
At the center of the field is a four-armed equal-armed cross with widened lobes and radiant glory. Multi-tiered bouquets of flowers and fruit are set into the corners. On the sides are compositions depicting a bright star with radiant glory (halo) amid the heavenly spheres. The edges of the cover are trimmed with silver-thread fringe.
The reverse is lined with white silk fabric. Near one edge is a handwritten text in black ink (in Russian): "...1859. No. 15. Granted by His Majesty Emperor Alexander I in 1806. The velvet was retouched and the silver cleaned in 1897."
