Description

The icon shows a half-length, frontal image of Jesus Christ. He blesses with his right hand and holds an open Gospel in his left. The icon is set in a metal riza. The face, the right hand, and the fingers of the left hand are painted in oil. Yellow and brown tones predominate. On the metal riza, Christ's garments are engraved in relief: a white chiton and a yellow himation. Around the image, along the perimeter of the icon, is a frame in the form of a floral and geometric ornament; at the bottom center of the frame is the inscription: "CHRIST PANTOCRATOR." On the pages of the open Gospel are the inscriptions: on the left, "A NEW COMMANDMENT"; on the right, "I GIVE YOU." The reverse and edges of the panel are covered in red cotton fabric.

The icon entered the museum's holdings in 1972.
