How to work with the museum’s holdings
Working with the objects in the holdings of the Kharkiv Historical Museum is a paid service. The established rules for handling museum objects must also be followed.
To work with the holdings, you need to write an official letter addressed to the director of the museum. In the letter, state which materials you are interested in (for example, holdings related to a particular person) and what you will use them for (for example, a dissertation or other research).
While the museum is closed to visitors, send the letter by e-mail: mail@museum.kh.ua. Other ways to get in touch are on the Contacts page.
Common questions
Does the museum have items, photographs or objects connected with a particular person, event or organisation?
If there is no information on the object you are interested in on the museum’s website (or in other reliable sources connected with the museum), you can contact the museum or call (contacts). To work with the museum’s holdings you need to write an official letter addressed to the director of the museum.
Can I get information or a photograph of my relative from the museum?
Most likely not. The museum is not an institution that specialises in keeping personal documents, and many museum objects are connected with prominent people and have memorial significance. You may be better off contacting an archive, for example the State Archives of Kharkiv Oblast. You can also try the search on the museum’s website: the name you need may appear in a text or document published there.
Can I scan or photograph objects from the museum’s holdings?
Yes. However, photography (video recording) and working with the objects in the holdings of the Kharkiv Historical Museum are paid services, and the established rules for handling museum objects must be followed. To do so, write an official letter addressed to the director of the museum.
I have an object that may have historical value. Will the museum accept or buy it?
Unfortunately, the museum cannot buy objects at the moment. You can leave information about the object and your contact details for the future.
The museum can, however, accept such an object as a free gift if it has historical value (a member of the museum staff decides this). To do so, please contact us with a description of the object using the museum’s contacts.
