Collection group
Weapons
The “Weapons” fund of the Kharkiv Historical Museum holds about 1,200 items: examples of edged and firearms, protective armour, ammunition and more.
About the group
They belong to different historical eras, from the Middle Ages to the 20th century, and come from different countries of Europe and Asia, even from America and Africa. They include domestic and captured weapons, archaeological finds and more.
The collection includes edged weapons, among them bladed arms. It also has a Tatar bow with a quiver, a crossbow of Western European make, and a considerable number of hand firearms.
In the collection of protective armour, the armour and helmets of Polish hussars of the mid- and second half of the 17th century draw attention.
The museum also owns examples of artillery ammunition and weapons, from a hackbut and a small mortar of the 16th–17th centuries to guns, howitzers and mortars of Soviet make from the mid-20th century, as well as two tanks: the British Mk V “composite”, a trophy of the Civil War, and the Soviet T-34-85.
