The exhibition has been dismantled. The page is kept as an archive: the texts and photographs of the exhibition.
The museum opened on 4 September 2015, for the 30th anniversary of the European Charter of Local Self-Government and the 150th anniversary of the introduction of the zemstvos, the first bodies of local self-government, in Sloboda Ukraine.
The exhibition told of the historical past of self-government from its beginnings and the spread of the regiment-and-company system.
Visitors could learn about the formation of zemstvo self-government and the introduction of the office of city mayor, which, like a historical tribute, exists to this day.
The story covered the life of communities in the Soviet period and the development of self-government in independent Ukraine.
The complex of exhibits aroused great interest: original documents on self-government in the Kharkiv region, items used by our countrymen at different times, recreated clothing of officials of different eras, and original weapons.
The exhibition covered a wide span of time, introducing visitors to almost 400 years of the history of self-government in the Kharkiv region. All the materials on display vividly illustrated the spirit, history and age-old traditions of self-government of the Sloboda people.
The museum was located in the Derzhprom building (5 Svobody Square, entrance 5).
